PTA Funds Reusable Water Bottles For Students
Every child at St Paul’s Catholic School has been given their own reusable water bottle, as part of an initiative to encourage students to drink water regularly, and to cut down on the use of single use plastics. The bottles have been kindly funded by the PTA.
PE Teacher, Matt Cooke, who is leading the initiative said: “Drinking more water has many proven benefits that will help students’ health and improve their cognitive skills, mood and alertness. We hope that having their own bottle will get them into the habit of drinking water during the day and that this will have a positive effect on their health and wellbeing, helping them to feel and perform better.”
The bottles can be refilled at water fountains around the school and at the outside taps. Students have space to write their name and tutor group on their bottles so that, if mislaid, they can be easily returned to their owners.
Matt said: “Another important aspect of this initiative is that it will reduce plastic waste as there will be fewer single use water bottles purchased and discarded at break times. We are grateful to the PTA for making it possible for us to give each student their own water bottle.”
Water is vital for us all to function. Drinking more water will help:
- Cognitive function/thinking skills
- Healthy digestion
- Fight illness
- Improve mood
- Improve alertness and reduce tiredness
