Year 12 Have Virtual Meeting With Baroness Bull
Our Year 12 A level Politics students met virtually for an hour with Baroness Bull who is a cross bencher for the House of Lords. Baroness Bull started the session by explaining to the students how the House of Lords functions and what her roles are within it.
The floor was then opened to questions and a discussion. Students asked questions like ‘what challenges are there for women in the House of Lords?’ and ‘How have the skills you gained from previous jobs as a prima ballerina, Vice President of King’s College, and Royal Opera House Creative Director prepared you for a job in Parliament?’ Baroness Bull was very candid in her answers to the students. She explained how the discipline and observations she learned as a dancer have helped her in the House of Lords, and how communication and imagination in her posts have helped her to think her way around laws to bring creative solutions.
She further encouraged them to get involved in politics from a young age and engage in debating societies and to never lose their curiosity. She was very impressed with the level of political knowledge that the students had and the maturity of their questions. We look forward to more sessions when possible with other members of the House of Lords.
