Student Leaders Attend MK Youth Summit
Student leaders participated in the Milton Keynes Youth Summit which was created to empower young people to stand up and use their voice. It took place at Unity Place in Milton Keynes. The pupils actively participated in workshops for well being and for staying safe in MK. Later on, students learned to polish important skills like the craft of getting their point across and on how to challenge the topic and not the person. Students also heard about the importance of youth participation in government from their local MP, Chris Curtis, and the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Marie Bradburn. To inspire them, the students were given the opportunity to hear from the youth leaders in MK including Maggie Beckett, the Youth Mayor, and Shanika Mahendran, the Youth Councillor, who both spoke about how important it is for young people to get involved in their communities from a young age.
Lastly we found out the results from the Mark Your Ballot campaign that we participated in last year which asked students to vote on which issues concern them the most. The issue that won was Crime and Safety. St Paul’s was recognised for having the second most participation from all the schools in Milton Keynes by casting 1,270 votes from our student body. Our student leaders were very inspired and left the Youth Summit more confident and more inspired to help than ever to get involved in local politics. We thank the MK Youth Council for providing us with this wonderful opportunity.
